September Purchases

I didn’t buy a red pencil skirt this month. I found one at Black House White Market, but the quality seemed low for the price. Talbot’s carries a red pencil skirt, but, for $109, I want to be able to try it on first. (The skirts weren’t in stock when I visited the Rookwood location.) I’ll keep looking. In the meantime, here’s what I bought this month:

St Vincent de Paul
1. Levi's jeans, $2.50
2. Old Navy jeans, $2.50
3. Vintage tie-neck blouse, $2.25
4. Vintage collared blouse, $2.25
5. Sequin dress, $5.00
6. Velvet vest, $2.25

A conversation with a friend about bed bugs got me paranoid about bringing the critters home in thrifted clothes. I washed everything I could in hot water and the sequin dress and velvet vest are chilling in my freezer. Still, I felt itchy for days following my thrifting excursion. Mental bed bugs, I guess.

Target
7. Dress, $9.98

4th Street Boutique
8. Banana Republic dress, $12.00
9. Scarf, $6.00

Serket Jewelry
10. Bracelet, $18

Total: $62.73

The Bad Polyester

I wore this hand-made, polyester dress in August and nearly died when I went out of doors. Note to self: old-school polyester is best suited to temps under 75 degrees and low humidity. Today was ideal for vintage poly.

Dress, handmade, vintage, and swapped. Sweater, INC. Necklace, Serket Jewelry. Shoes, Steve Madden. Bag, No Boundaries.

Everything's Up To Date In Kansas City

I was feeling very up to date, myself, in leopard print and clashing patterns. Both are identified as trends for this fall.

Sweater, INC. Dress, Lipstick. Boots, Nine West. Purse, Apt 9. Scarf, Hancock Fabrics. Tote, Wilson’s. Earrings, thrifted.

4th Street

I finally made it into the 4th Street Boutique in downtown Cincinnati. The boutique is a high end thrift shop with sales benefitting Dress for Success Cincinnati. I walked out with two treasures:

1. the scarf I wore to the Apple Fest ($6)
2. and this wool Banana Republic dress ($12).

Dress, Banana Republic (thrifted). Scarf, some department store (I’ve had it for over 10 years). Boots, Nine West. Bracelet, Mod Cloth. Watch, Raymond Weil. Bag, Apt 9. Earrings, self-made.

Par-tay

A nighttime party is always an excuse to dress a little skanky (and stand in front of graffiti).

Apple Train

Today, we rode the historic LM&M Railroad as a part of the Lebanon Apple Fest.

Top, Tommy Hilfiger (swapped). Jeans, Old Navy (thrifted). Scarf, thrifted. Bag, Nine West. Shoes, swap. Earrings, World Market.

The Apple Fest was pretty disappointing (except for apple flappen and Serket Jewelry) and the train ride was even more of a let-down. The day was redeemed when I got to drive the caboose and dangle off the back of the speeding train.

Cuckoo for Peacock

Although Beefy says that peacocks are dirty, nasty, mean birds (he was attacked at the zoo), I can’t help thinking they’re beautiful. The intense combination of blue and green plumage has inspired more than one of my outfits.

Jacket, London Jeans. Dress, London Times. Belt, Forever 21. Earrings, Ali’s Boutique. Bag, Simply Vera.

I Brought My Legs

I’m back in Cincinnati and I brought my legs with me. I know you were worried I might leave them in Arkansas. Never fear!

Linen

I also dyed this little, linen jacket. I received it from an online swap. It was originally a light khaki that I intended to dye from the moment I saw it in Wardrobe Swap Shop. The tag says it’s 100% linen, so I thought it would take the dye well. I used an entire bottle of “wine” dye but only got a dark pink color.

Jacket, swapped and dyed. Dress, Ann Taylor Loft. Necklace, Target. Shoes, Linea Paolo.

I may try dyeing it again, with a bottle of purple, to get a darker shade. In the meantime, I’m learning to like the current color.
