WWBJW

As I dressed for a Christmas Eve Eve party tonight, I thought, “What would B Jones wear?” It might be something like this…

Hat, Epcot Germany. Sleeveless cardigan, Forever 21 (embellished by me). Striped top, Jones New York (thrifted). Skirt, Mossimo. Leggings, Danskin. Shoes, Siegerson Morrison for Target. Necklace, swap.

B(eth) Jones is an LA style blogger and stylist. Her blog is among my top ten favorites. Her style is fearless and cutting edge. She mixes patterns and formality levels better than anyone else. I love that she incorporates unique vintage pieces into almost every outfit and wears tons of hats. I doubt she’d actually wear my outfit (the skirt is too short and the shoes too bright), but I think it has a funky B Jones vibe. It serves me well to ask, "WWBJW?"

Caped

While Beefy and I were on our Michigan vacation, I persuaded him to take me to Goodwill one snowy afternoon. There, I found the olive pencil skirt I’d been wishing for and Beefy spotted this new-with-tags cape. He graciously surrendered it to me.

Cape, Mossimo (thrifted). Poncho (underneath), Newport News. Turtleneck, Merona. Skirt, Mossimo. Tights, We Love Colors. Boots, Miz Mooz. Bag, Lewis (thrifted and vintage)

I’m discovering that a cape is more practical than I might have thought. For instance, it is the only outerwear one can comfortable wear over a poncho.

The cape has purple lining!

As you might have guessed from the festive color combination, we were on our way to a holiday party. I added a perky pair of antlers to complete my Christmas-y look.

Beefy got into the spirit of things, too, and wore my Valkyrie Santa hat:

Still photos don’t do it justice.

Day Sequins

For a blogger get-together, I took inspiration from Kimberly’s #1 Fun and Festive Styling Trick: “Mix dressy and casual.”

Chili Bowl

We went to a chili party today and brought our newly invented "Triple S" chili*. It’s spicy, sweet, and smoky (and vegetarian).

Sweater, I Heart Ronson. Dress, No Boundaries. Tee, Forever 21. Jeggings, Mossimo. Boots, Diba. Necklaces, thrifted and borrowed. Purse, vintage. Gloves, Buffalo Exchange.

There were four kinds of chili to sample. (I only made it through three tastings.) Of course, I wore my eatin’ clothes.

Too much chili! Too much heat! I surrender!

*The recipe is still under construction...I'm happy to share it once it is fine-tuned.

Par-tay

A nighttime party is always an excuse to dress a little skanky (and stand in front of graffiti).

Top, Julie’s Closet. Skirt, BB Dakota (thrifted). Leggings, Forever 21. Boots, Blowfish. Bracelet, Serket Jewelry.

Out With the Old

I rang in the New Year at Carnivolution. I was one of the squarest people there, despite my “costume.”

Mask, Cappel’s (self-customized). Dress, thifted. Tights, Urban Outfitters. Shoes, Nine West.

I had actually forgotten all about this dress. I ran across it while searching for another. It turned out to be the perfect match for the mask I had embellished the day before.

I added the feathers to the mask.

A lot has been said in the blogosphere about the shittiness of 2009. Personally, I wouldn’t qualify the year as “bad,” but it was a year of transition. It’s difficult to see the old go, but the new has so much potential. Bye, bye 2009. You can kiss me on the…

In fact, goodbye to the entire decade! It was definitely a wild ride.

As an extra treat, here I am on New Year’s Eve 2000 (with my friend Shawn). Little did I know what was to come!

For the Rest of Us

I wore my finest Festivus finery this evening. I’m entirely unsure as to what constitutes appropriate Festivus apparel, so I took the opportunity to wear whatever the hell I wanted.

Poncho, Christopher and Banks. Skirt, Mossimo. Tights, Target, Boots, Rampage. Zipper hoop earrings, Claire’s.

And, wait for it: Dress, American Apparel. Studded suspenders, Hot Topic.

I was ready for feats of strength but settled for an airing of grievances instead. My beef: drivers who don’t use their turn signals. Seriously, all it takes is the flick of a pinky!

1982 Christmas

I was so excited when I found this ruffled dress at St Vincent de Paul. I couldn’t wait for an opportunity to wear it. I’ll be totally, inappropriately overdressed at tonight’s party, but I don’t care.

Dress, thrifted. Jacket, Odds ‘n Evens (thrifted). Tights, We Love Colors. Boots, Rampage. Studded choker (worn as a bracelet), thrifted.
