Death Knell

Jacket, Mossimo. Dress, Newport News. Earrings, Sin City. Brass bangle, World Market. Wooden bangle, swap. Bag, Franco Sarto. Pumps, Wild Diva. Ring, Jan Michaels San Francisco

I don’t make a habit of complaining about my outfits on my blog, but this one left me cold. Khaki has never been a good color on me and true white is a bit iffy. The little pops of color I added were not enough to save my complexion from looking corpselike.

I’ve paired this jacket and dress together once before. The result was better when the blazer was unbuttoned to reveal a blue-green shirt beneath.

If only I could have lived in a watercolor world today. I think I would have been happier with my palette.

Chokey

Striped blazer, Mossimo/Merona. Pink silk scarf, Thailand. Blue jersey dress, Frederick’s of Hollywood. Khaki slingbacks, Linea Paolo. Printed bracelet, Xhilaration. Earrings, Delia*s.

I was quite unhappy with this outfit. I felt like I needed a shot of color near my face, but the scarf looked like it was choking me. I started the day with my hair half up. After teaching aerobics, I pulled it all back in an effort to demonstrate that I do indeed have a neck, but the effect was too harsh.

I also did not like my makeup. After seeing Hillary’s smokey-eye transformation, I tried it on myself. As usual, the heavy eye makeup and pale lip color left me looking like a dead whore. My friend, and former MAC consultant, Julie, suggested I try again, but with shades of brown only.

I did love the color mix in my accessories and clothing.

P.S. Hey Anon - I've got my white hose on again, today! ;)

Schlumpy

Black silk blend shrug, INC. Army green tank with embellished collar, H&M. Black long-sleeved tee, Merona. Pinstriped pants, Forever 21. Black pumps, Michelle D. Gold bracelet, from swap. Gold watch, Raymond Weil.

I don’t normally complain about my appearance in this blog, but I had a really hard time getting a flattering (i.e. slimming) photo of myself this morning. Because it’s so cold, I am wearing thick leggings beneath my trousers. While I have plenty of room in my pants (gee, that sounds naughty) and the leggings are a slippery synthetic, the fabrics still stick together and my pants cling as if they were too tight. To put it baldly, I look fat.

On the bright side, I’m quite happy with my hair this morning. Cold, dry air means itchy skin, but good hair.

No More Minis at Rehearsal

Turquoise cardigan with green stitching, Xhilaration. Green tee, Steve and Barry. Denim mini, American Standard Tyte (thrifted). Moccasins, American Eagle (via Payless). Four-leaf clover necklace, Okinawa PX.

This is not an Outfit (with a capital “O”), but just something I thought would be comfortable for rehearsal. I’ve journaled it here to remind myself to never wear a mini to rehearsal again because:

1. It is very cold in the cafeteria (where we practice). My legs were purple by the end of the evening.

2. When you sit in a mini, on stage, everyone can see your underwear. A strategically placed script helped the situation, but I’m pretty sure I flashed everyone when I took a spill during my tap routine.

3. Tight minis ride up. Usually, I wear this skirt with tights and the friction keeps everything in place. With bare legs, I spent the night tugging the mini back into place.

I looked, and felt, uncomfortable all evening.

Closet Vomit and a Haircut

White, swiss-dotted blouse, Merona. Silvery slacks, The Limited. Pink obi belt, Sugadaminka (via Ebay). Yellow pumps, Victoria Spenser.

I think my closet vomited on me this morning. How else to explain this disaster? I thought I was being funky with the yellow pumps and hot pink belt. At least it was too hot for me to have added further disaster like a red scarf and green jacket.

I ripped off this outfit as soon as I got home and headed out for my long awaited HAIR CUT!

I brought in a picture of Christina Applegate’s new bob. I wanted something I could wear curly or wavy or straight. I’m a big fan of the messy look.

Whaddya think?

Voluminous

Tiered pink cami, My Michelle (borrowed from Fashion Lady). Pleated skirt, George ME. White cardigan, Express. Beige slingbacks, Linea Paolo. Cameo choker, vintage.

This isn’t exactly a fashion disaster, but it’s a bit of a misstep. The colors are spot on, but the shape is not. The tiers in the cami and the pleats in the skirt (which is a size too large anyway) give me too much volume. I would have been better off with choosing either the cami or the skirt and pairing it with something slim.

B-b-b-boring

Brown jacquard blazer, Apt 9. Pink asian-style shirt with brown trim, Studio Y. Brown pants, Moda International. Brown pumps, Mossimo. Brown crystal earrings, Express.

This outfit bored me to death. I did get two compliments, but they were from very conservative dressers. I was also told that I looked like a teacher. And that wasn’t meant in an “I’m hot for teacher” sort of way, but more like “you look like you’re going to give me lots of homework.”

What could I have done to spice this up? Any suggestions? Crazy shoes? I was at a complete loss for ideas.

I promise something much more exciting tomorrow.
