Walk a Mile

I confess: I can hardly walk in these shoes. I bought them when I was going through a “fat foot phase” at the beginning of the summer. My feet have since, mercifully, deflated, but now the shoes are too big. I continue to wear them, though. They’ve become a pattern mixing staple.

Dress, Jones New York. Vest, Express (thrifted). Shoes, Nine West. Bag, Nicole Lee. Belt, thrifted. Earrings, vintage. Watch, Unlisted. Bangles, import store. Wrap bracelet, Mixit. Ring, vintage.

Busy Reader

My schedule is pretty full. I’m always trying to squeeze just one more activity into my rotation. Eventually, I need downtime and my favorite way to relax is reading.

Vest, swap. Dress, Jovovich Hawk for Target. Sandals, Aerosoles. Bag, Happy Cow. Earrings, Julie’s Inspiration. Sunnies, Betsey Johnson.

I’m a huge fan of our local library. I collect book recommendations from friends, bloggers, and Amazon and then reserve them through the library’s online catalog. All I have to do is pick them up. I’ve usually got a stack of materials borrowed. (In fact, I have an overdue book right now. Doh.)

I’ve really got to dig into that pile of reading material because, if I can read the most at my library location before July 31, I’ll win a Nook Color. An e-reader would make hauling all those books around much more convenient. Check out Team Read for yourself.

In June, I've finished Origin (J A Konrath), I'm about to finish Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell (Susanna Clark), and I've begun The Sea, The Sea (Iris Murdoch). Any recommendations for my fourth book?

Scotch Blues

I’m digging the combination of ruffled tartan blouse and pale blue skirt. It’s frenzied above and calm below.

Blouse, Romeo + Juliet Couture. Skirt, G. J. Forbes (thrifted and shortened). Belt, Target. Studded bracelet, Hot Topic. Fringe bracelet, self-made. Shoes, Nine West. Bag, Massini.

Fringe for the Fringe

The Fringe Festival is all about novel and edgy art, not literal fringe. Wouldn’t it be great, though, to see hundreds of people wearing fringed clothing in Over-the-Rhine? Still, the people watching was pretty spectacular.

Vest, Sassoon (swap). Tank, Express. Skirt, hand-me-down (shortened and embellished). Sandals, Franco Sarto. Bag, MCI (thrifted). Sunnies, Girl Props. Necklace, borrowed from Tina.

Hated It

I wasn’t really loving this outfit. It was comfortable, but the striped top tends to “grow” during the day and become baggy. I’ll have to try it with a more fitted bottom, next time.

Tank, Julie’s Closet. Turtleneck, Mossimo. Trousers, Forever 21. Scarf, gift. Booties, Madden Girl. Bag, Payless. Bracelet, self-made.

I did like details of the outfit, if not the overall shape. The scarf added a nice dose of color. The tank’s neckline is embellished with gold and silver beads. There was a bit of subtle pattern mixing with the horizontally striped top (and socks!) and the vertically striped pants. The gray booties turned out to be the perfect height for these very long pant legs (and comfortable for some shopping at the mall after work).

I’m smiling because I got my hair cut this evening. Good hair can save even the worst outfit day.

Fringe

I SO have a thing for fringe and its relative, the tassel. While tassels can be pricey, a length of fringe trim from the fabric store is quite inexpensive. The makings of this fringe bracelet were surely less than a dollar.

Shrug, Express (swap). Dress, Melton. Slip, thrifted. Dupati scarf, importer. Black tights, Danskin. Gray lace tights, Apostrophe. Boots, White Mountain. Fringe bracelet, self-made.

Please excuse the giant hand. I’m coming to get you, Ba-ba-ra!

Today’s black lace element is a bit subtler. As a consolation, you get gray lace, too.

Urban Outfitters

Dress, No Boundaries. Hat, Charlotte Russe. Necklace and cuff, Urban Outfitters. Flip flops, SB. Bag, Deux Lux.

A little birdie told me that Urban Outfitters was having a 50% off sale. That’s 50% off of already marked down items. Here’s what I got:

Flip flops, Ecote. Plaid shirt, Urban Renewal. Purple cardi, Silence + Noise. Bag, Deux Lux. Tank, Kimchi & Blue.

I’m actually wearing that last shirt backwards. The rose embellished neckline is too pretty to be worn where I can’t see it.

The last thing I bought was not 50% off, but it was 100% awesome: a glass hand!

Good for scaring children or holding rings.
