The Little Black Dress Event

Beefy was the one of the few guys at the The Little Black Dress Event. I hope he enjoyed being surrounded by dozens of beautiful women, all dressed to kill. I was sure to keep my eye on him all night.

I’ve never seen so many well-dressed women together. The guests were fabulous. (I chose Angela in her leather LBD as my “best dressed” attendee.) The other Honorary Fashionistas were as sweet as they were stylish. And we all enjoyed the LBDs presented in the fashion show.

The Honorary Fashionistas: me, Sara, Merrilee, Asha, and Tamia.
Loved Sara's headband!

Me and a few of the LBD models.
I really liked the scarf (from a Summerfair vendor) on the model on the far right.

Perhaps the highlight of the night was meeting a few readers (in their LBDS)! Hi Alison, Maranda, and Iola! You looked beautiful.

The Virtual LBD Party

The The Little Black Dress Event has just started! I can’t wait to check out all the fabulous LBDs.

For those unable to attend the live event, welcome to the virtual party on WIW2D! Here are a few of our well-dressed attendees:

Pam of Over 50 Feeling 40 adds just the right accent color with a sea-foam green necklace.

I love Sarah’s multicolored scarf. Even better, it was thrifted! Click on the photo for more pictures of Sarah’s outfit.

I think Quest for Fashion Sense has found it. So chic! You must visit her blog entry to check out the nail polish she paired with this dress.

Sheila has eased my guilt over being an LBD hoarder. She admits to at least seven, herself. We’re kindred spirits! (Right down to our love of bright colors and accessories)

Megan Mae is another of my long-lost sisters. She loves to remix the same item for a different look. Click on her picture to see the 6 (very different!) ways she’s styled this LBD.

P.S. I want to steal that belt.

Hello, glamour. Cara took a retro spin on styling the LBD. You have to visit this entry to see her secret-agent-in-a-convertible styling, too.

The real party ends at 10, but this one keeps going and going. Feel free to continue to send in pictures of you in your LBD and I’ll add you to the dancefloor.

LBD: Lillie Rubin Sequined 80s Dress

My seventh, and final, LBD is covered in sequins and I don’t have a great picture of it.

When I started my LBD roundup, I fully intended to wear this sequined number to the Little Black Dress Event. That’s why I’ve profiled it last and also why I didn’t bother to snap a better picture of it. (All the better for the “reveal!”)

After your reaction to the Banana Republic cocktail dress, though, I changed my mind. I’ll be delaying the next wearing of the sequin dress until later in the month and I’ll wear the BR dress to the LBD Event instead.

Never fear, I haven’t taken all of the surprise out of Friday’s post! The chosen dress will be treated to Beefy’s superb photography skills and paired with a new pair of shoes.

And that sequined dress? I’ll be wearing it two weeks later (and nabbing better pics while I'm at it).

LBD: Blue Heaven Casual Dress

I recommend adding a casual LBD to your wardrobe, along with one for work and one for events. It can become a wardrobe workhorse! (And, if you buy a cotton version, you can easily redye it black once it starts to fade.) Like your more formal LBDs, look for special detailing to add interest, in the absence of color. My casual LBD is all about the back.

I won’t be silly and pretend that this dress is a possibility for the Little Black Dress Event, but it’s a great option for other local Cincinnati events, like bar crawls and food festivals! (Machine washable duds are best for possible spills!)

LBD: Sele Minidress

This LBD is too little. The style is appropriate for work, but the hemline is not. I gave up on trying to make the dress office-appropriate and donated it to last week’s Swap Hop. But I got a few fun looks out of it first.

Since the dress is now gone, I’m obviously not wearing it to the Little Black Dress Event. Did I make the right decision to swap it away?

Was I right to swap the Sele dress away?
Yes
No
Maybe ... I'll explain in the comments

We're now one week out from the Little Black Dress Event. If you can't make it in person, send me a picture or link to a blog post of you wearing your little black dress and I’ll post an LBD round up on June 3.

LBD: Banana Republic Cocktail Dress

Fellow actors have always warned me against wearing my own clothing on stage. It seems like a good idea at first because you KNOW it fits and you KNOW you like it. But the wear and tear of quick changes and running around backstage can destroy your garments. Additionally, wearing the same thing, night after night, can work like aversion therapy. You never want to wear those items, again. I think that’s what happened with my cocktail LBD from Banana Republic.

I wore it while playing a 1940’s bar hostess (and former call girl) in Noir Suspicions, at a local dinner theater. And then I never wore it again.

It did get one wear (left) before the play.

The dress is still in good condition, but forgotten in the depths of my closet. Is the Little Black Dress Event my opportunity to remember it?

LBD: Steppin' Out Velvet Dress

This little velvet number is the first of my semi-formal LBDs. I don’t think I could dress it down for work if I tried.

The dress has a retro style, but is actually from the 80s or 90s. I rescued it from a costume shop and have worn it to two weddings (one not pictured) and a New Year’s Eve party. The velvet is unyielding and a little worse for wear, so I restrict the dress to dimly lit events. The Little Black Dress Event is being held at Moonlight Gardens, so perhaps I could get away with wearing it there?

LBD: London Times Trapeze Dress

This little London Times black dress is probably the most versatile thing in my closet. I’ve worn it casually, to work, and for evening.

For evening, I tend to leave the dress unbelted (the better for consumption of drinks and appetizers). For day, I usually cinch the waist with a belt, vest, or jacket. The dress is made from a lightweight jersey and works well on its own in the summer heat or layered in the winter. I liked this dress so much that I bought its twin, in teal. And I’ve worn it so much that the black has begun to fade and the fabric is pilling.

I bought this LBD at a Marshall’s for around $25 and I’ve worn it 18 times. Surely, I can get another seven wearings out of it to bring my cost per wear down to only a buck. Do you think I’ll wear it next on June 3?
