Rap with Me

I’ve never been good with lyrics. I once mistook “simple as that” for “stapled his ass.” I have an even harder time discerning a song's words in a live situation. So, when I went to a rap performance on Saturday night, I had no idea what they were saying. But the Counterfeit Money Machine looked good.

Dress, Jovovich Hawk for Target. Shoes, Lela Rose for Payless. Belt, Brighton (thrifted). Necklace, Zad. Bag, Coldwater Creek.

I knew there was no way I’d fit in with a rap crowd, so I didn’t even try to dress appropriately. Surprisingly, there were a number of hipsters in the audience, so my fake glasses did offer a level of camouflage.

Knitted Tube

I never thought “knitted tube” would be on my list of winter wardrobe staples, but I’m quickly discovering that it is both a warm and versatile option.

Cardigan, Energie (thrifted). Blouse, J Crew. Skirt, gift. Tights, We Love Colors. Boots, Rampage. Earrings, vintage. Owl pendant/brooch, thrifted.

Out of doors: Hat, Nine West. Scarf, Walgreen's. Coat, Guess. Bag, Nicole Lee. Boots, Matisse.

I’ve worn it at my natural waist (as a skirt), above the bust (as a dress), and just under the bust (as a high-waisted skirt).

How would you wear a knitted tube?

A Great Lay

I bought this sheer, floral tank to add to my spring and summer wardrobe. However, I prefer wearing it in cooler weather as a part of a layered ensemble. It turned out to be a great lay.

Cardigan, I Heart Ronson. Floral tank, Mushka by Sienna Rose. Turtleneck and jeggings, Mossimo. Boots, Matisse. Earrings, Julie’s Closet. Brooch, my grandmother’s.

In the fall and winter, I like to layer the tank over a turtleneck and top it with another layer. It adds a nice shot of color and a texture contrast.

Broken Promises

It’s a good thing I didn’t resolve to dress less flamboyantly for work in 2011. If I had, I would have broken my resolution on the first day back.

Sweater, H&M. Tank, Apt 9. Belt, thrifted. Skirt, Thailand. Boots, Rampage. Earrings, Ali’s Boutique.

Home Office

I opted not to brave the snow or bone-chilling cold today and, instead, worked from home. I might have never changed out of my pyjamas if Beefy and I didn’t have plans to run a few errands this evening.

Gray sweater, Joli Tricot. Red sweater, Bloch. Button-down, American Eagle (thrifted). Tank, Wet Seal. Jeggings, Mossimo. Boots, Capelli. Necklace, VCLM.

Do Over

When it comes to dressing, every day is a do-over. If you don’t like how an outfit turns out the first time you wear it, you can try, try again.

Vest, Old Navy (swap). Dress, Giorgio Fiorlani (thrifted). Shoes, Mossimo. Necklace, vintage.

I attempted to emulate a Lucky look with this dress over two years ago. I wasn’t totally satisfied with the result because my vest wasn’t quite “shrunken” enough. I did it over today, with the vest I scored from the Sweat Swap.

I like second chances. I think that’s why thrifted, swapped, and vintage clothing holds such appeal. This dress, vest, and owl pendant were all preowned. If I don’t wear them until they fall apart, I’ll pass them on to someone else.

I’ve been obsessed with post-apocalyptic fiction since I read The Girl Who Owned a City in 6th grade. If we had the chance to do it all over, what would the world be like?
