Cheer

It was a thoroughly cheerless morning: gray and drizzly. I brought my own cheer with bright colors and zany pattern mixing.

Sweater and bag, H&M. Dress, swapped and shortened. Pumps, Colin Stuart. Bracelets, Target, Claire’s and thrifted.

I was feeling REALLY cheery once I got out of the rain and settled into my office with a raspberry-filled donut and strong coffee. Cheerful, inside and out.

Mine

I was true to my word; I’m never giving this dress back to Colette. Instead, I bought the same dress (NWT) from eBay and gave that to her. Now this dress is mine, ALL MINE!

Shirt, J Crew. Dress, Richard Chai for Target. Shoes, Colin Stuart. Earrings, Julie’s Inspiration. Watch, Vivani (gift). Bracelets, Epcot Morocco.

I’ve been frantically remixing the dress over the past 10 weeks, trying to get every wear possible out of it before I had to return it.

Now, the pressure is off, but I don’t think I’ll slow my remixing pace down much. It has so many layering possibilities for fall and winter!

Blueberry

I worked picking berries one summer. I ate all the raspberries I could stand, even though I’d occasionally eat one a stinkbug had recently vacated. Yuck!

The blueberries ripened later in the season. I didn’t eat as many of those because I discovered that the inside of a blueberry looks an awful lot like guts. They do make excellent missiles to toss at your coworkers, though.

Thankfully, I left the job before we moved to the backbreaking work of picking strawberries.

Today, I resemble a giant blueberry. I can assure you that I am, also, full of guts.

Shirt, American Eagle (thrifted). Skirt, thrifted (no tag). Bag, Nicole Lee. Shoes, Colin Stuart. Bangles, The Bead Factory and Claire’s. Necklace, Zad. Ring, vintage.

Powerhouse

I’m wearing the power blouse and the power skirt and the power belt and the power heels. Do you feel the power?

Blouse, Judy Bond (thrifted). Skirt, Talbot’s (thrifted). Belt, thrifted. Pumps, Colin Stuart. Earrings, Julie’s Inspiration. Cuffs, Target and Epcot Canada. Purse, Apt 9.

That Lace Mossimo Skirt

A good percentage of the style diary bloggers out there bought this little lace skirt from Target. I don't blame them. Who could resist this simple, but girly, number? Especially when it went on clearance for $5.25? Or even better, yet, once it showed up at Goodwill?

Hi Kasmira!

I just snagged a lace skirt exactly like yours (Target brand, maybe Mossimo?).......

Anyhoo, would you possibly do a post on what you like to wear with the lace skirt? I am considering a faded denim skirt, but that almost seems so obvious.

Reva

Honestly, I forgot all about this skirt, until Reva reminded me. I hadn’t worn it since February, because, even though it’s adorable, I find a little difficult to style. The elastic waist, while comfortable, is unflattering. The skirt’s “pooch” is emphasized by knit tees and tanks. In the winter, I obscured the waistline with sweaters. For summer, the only viable option seems to be a woven shirt. Denim, if you’ve got it. (I don’t. But light blue and white pinstripes are a close visual approximation.)

Shirt, Converse One Star (thrifted). Skirt and bag, Mossimo. Sandals, Aerosoles. Earrings, No Boundaries. Necklace, gift from The Magpie’s Daughter (I’m sorry his sweet little owl face isn’t visible in the photos!) Rings, vintage and shopgoodwill.com. Slave bracelet, vintage.

I wore my shirt knotted and tried to love the elastic waist. No dice. Next time, I’ll wear the shirt untucked, unknotted, and maybe belted.

If you’ve got this skirt, how do you style it? Do you tuck your top in? Obscure the elastic with a belt? Embrace the pooch?

Shorter Than I Realized

Whoa. There’s nothing like a tall pair of stilettos to visually raise a hemline. I now realize why I usually wear this dress with low heels or flats.

Vest, New York & Co. Dress, Mossimo. Heels, Colin Stuart. Earrings, vintage. Bag, Charming Charlie. Mushroom ring, Rafia and Bossa. Cameo ring, vintage. Cuff, Target.

I have no problem with short skirts, in my off time. But I feel a little self-conscious showing this much naked leg at work.

Worm Love

I was vegan for a year*, but not a super strict vegan. I ate candy containing gelatin, I occasionally used honey, and I wore silk. I knew that the gelatin and honey (and leather) were off limits, but had no idea that silk worms also needed my sympathy.

Today, I’m mostly vegetarian. (You know, vegetarian except for that corned beef brisket I cooked last weekend.) I’m afraid I do buy and wear leather. But at least today’s silk was all secondhand.

Free the worms!

Silk shirt, INC (cut from a swapped dress). Silk and linen skirt, Travis Ayers (thrifted). Shoes, Wild Diva. Bag, Nicole Lee. Cuff, Target. Bracelets, Fort.

I guess you could also say that today's bag and shoes are "vegan," aka "plastic."

*I had to quit the vegan diet when I entered the Marines. I simply couldn't get the nutrition I needed in that situation without consuming animal products.
