Sailing Away

I didn’t leave on a boat. I left on a plane. But I’m looking rather nautical, today.

Can’t take a boat here from Cincinnati. (Or can you?)

It was lovely to meet you, ladies!

Gone Awry

Cardi, Moda International. Blouse, Bebe. Cami, NY & Co. Skirt, G.J. Forbes (thrifted and shortened). Pumps, Delicious. Clutch, Apt 9. Earrings, Target. Watch, Verner (swap).

Today is my last day of work before the 4th of July holiday. I planned to wear a red, white, and blue tribute to our nation’s independence day, but swapped out accessories at the last minute for a color scheme a little less patriotic. I exchanged a gold watch and navy beaded bracelet for a watch with a multi-colored, striped band. I replaced vintage earrings with red stones for a green resin pair. And I added a yellow clutch to my navy tote.

My eyes also stubbornly refused to adhere to a red, white, and blue color scheme. My state identification lists them as blue, but, today, they were determinedly green.

Dotty

Blouse, Forever 21. Vest, NY & Co. Skirt, Side x Side (thrifted and altered). Peeptoes, Delicious. Beaded bracelet, Bitten. Gold tone bracelet, swap.

If I was the Wicked Witch of Some Cardinal Direction on Friday, then I suppose I’m Dorothy today. See? I’ve got my “ruby slippers” on. What? The rest of my outfit doesn’t look like Dorothy’s? Well, the nickname for Dorothy is Dotty, so polka dots (and freckles) seem appropriate. Hmm….still not convinced that I’m Dorothy Gale? Keep scrolling down…

Here I am skipping through the Land of Oz. Tra-la-la-la-la. (Toto-Sammy isn’t in the picture because he wouldn’t stay in the @#$%! basket.)

Oh, no! Flying monkeys! The horror!

We are dead. (Everyone knows that your tongue protrudes when you’re dead.)

The end.

Well, if I’m not Dorothy, I’m certainly dotty.

Like Pajamas

Cardigan, Express. Dress, Moth. Peeptoe flats, NY & Co. Charm necklace, thrifted.

I knew today would be a l-o-n-g day, so I dressed for comfort. Flat shoes, soft fabrics, and a loose fit kept me somewhat sane while I ran about like a headless chicken. Thankfully, the day ended earlier than expected, at 8 p.m. If only I could have had a nap in my jammie-like clothes.

Summer Mixers - Red and Blue

Denim jacket, Forever 21. Dress, Jovavich Hawk for Target. Belt and beads, Xhilaration. Peeptoe pumps, Mossimo. Faux croc bag, Wilson’s Leather.

In Style inspiration page

I took some liberties with the In Style scheme. Instead of mostly blue and red with a splash of white, I started with a white (actually off-white) base and accented with blue and red. I also skipped the prints and stripes.

I really dislike it when dresses or long shirts tie in back of the waist. Not only does it look juvenile, but it speaks to the laziness of the clothing designer who wouldn’t cut the garment to fit a woman’s body without the self-adjustment of the attached sash. In this case, the dress fits perfectly without the tie, so it is purely decorative. I’m cutting it off.

The Real Slim Shady

Silk-blend sweater, Moda International. Tank, Merona. Skirt, Side x Side (thrifted and altered by me). Patent belt, The Limited. Jewelry, Xhilaration. Purse, Target (via swap). Slingbacks, Linea Paolo.

One of the great things about my blog is that I have total editorial and creative control. I only picture what I want you to see and write what I want you to read. While I occasionally slip up and reveal a little more depth of feeling, what you usually see is a carefully edited and presented Kasmira. In actuality, the real Slim Shady* is on the right.

I’m a real classy broad; I drink Bud Light.

*I have no idea what that song is about, despite reading the lyrics online, but it seemed apropos.

In the Navy

Wrap dress, Merona. Sailor scarf, borrowed from Fashion Lady (Londyn). Slip and earrings, thrifted. Patent navy belt, The Limited. Headband, Claire’s. Beaded bracelet, Bitten. Gold watch, Raymond Weil. Red heels, X Appeal.

I fell in love with this naval themed scarf after seeing Londyn wear it on her blog. She was kind enough to let me borrow it. At first, I was going to tie it cowboy style, the way I’ve seen many girls wearing their scarves lately, but it just made me look as if I were about to commit highway robbery. Instead, I wore it sailor style in homage of the scarf’s print and Mike’s years spent in the Cracker Jack uniform. (How I wish I had a picture of that to show you!) I thought the knotted scarf looked especially precious with my red coat.

I recently received a comment asking if I wore slips with my jersey dresses since the material can be transparent or just plain clingy in the wrong places. Absolutely! I also find them essential for wrap dresses. Slips are considered rather old-fashioned so it’s hard to (a) find them and (b) find cute ones for a good price. It totally grosses Mike out, but I buy all my slips at the thrift store. I guess they come from dead old ladies. I wash them before wearing and don’t give their origin a second thought. Where else can you find such prettily detailed underpinnings for a few bucks?

St. Louis: Day 1, Nautical

Blue and white wrap dress, Mossimo. Red patent headband and red patent belt, Xhilaration. Tan slingbacks, Linea Paolo. Red bag, Target (swap with mscherryfrost).

I flew to St. Louis this evening for a conference. I think I look pretty good in this photo, considering it’s after midnight and I’ve been traveling for eight hours. Gotta love being routed through Dallas on a trip from Cincinnati to St. Louis.

Unlike the last time I traveled, I was able to check baggage for this trip, so I could bring more clothing. Still, everything I brought had to go with either my tan or red shoes, my red bag, and my red Bebe coat. The coat was a lifesaver in the chilly airport and on the frigid plane.
