Experiment No. 595

A bright red dress (and leopard cardigan) was the perfect antidote to a very gloomy day.

Sweater, INC. Dress and belt, Studio 1. Boots, Rampage. Umbrella, Totes. Bag, Simply Vera.

I happily carried my purple bag to continue The Red Hat Society Experiments.

Experiment No. 594

I am finally debuting the 40 cent pencil skirt. It was a little snug when I purchased it, but after running 106 miles (and donning a pair of spanx), it fits comfortably.

Jacket, Esley. Top, Moda International. Skirt, Talbot’s (thrifted). Boots, Rampage. Owl pendant/brooch, Gerry’s (thrifted). Bag, Nicole Lee. Gloves, Bebe.

Today’s photo location was the Purple People Bridge, just before sunset.

Be Supernova (and Experiment No. 593)

This morning, I was telling Beefy how I spent college in the woods, eating granola and he heard, "in the woods, being supernova."

I’d like to be supernova today.

Dress, I Heart Ronson. Jacket, Forever 21 (via swap). Shoes, Two Lips. Watch, Louis Arden. Ring, Rafia & Bossa. Bag, Payless. Hair clip, self-made.

Experiment No. 592

This is my seventh Red Hat Society experiment. I think I’m getting the hang of combining red and purple. Or else I’ve just numbed myself to the clash of colors.

Poncho, Newport News. Turtleneck sweater, Charlotte Russe. Skirt, Express (thrifted). Belt as a necklace, thrifted. Black fishnets, Simply Vera. Purple tights, We Love Colors. Shoes, Isaac Mizrahi for Target. Bag, Vieta.

When I started this blog, I did not intend to avoid repeating an outfit. The pursuit of daily outfit novelty evolved as I challenged myself to explore all the possibilities within my closet. Today’s outfit borders on a repeat. I’m wearing the same sweater, skirt, and (purple) tights as in the last Red Hat Society experiment:

Despite the fact that the major pieces (and color scheme) are the same in each outfit, the use of accessories makes the ensembles seem totally different.

Experiment No. 591

Another entry into The Red Hat Society Experiment files. I seem to have an affinity for pairing the red and purple on my lower half.

Skirt, Express (thrifted). Sweater, Charlotte Russe. Tights, We Love Colors. Peeptoes, BCBGeneration. Pencil necklace, Tristate Antique Market.

This is the second Express brand houndstooth skirt I’ve thrifted. The pattern on the first skirt didn’t meet well at the side seam. This skirt does a little better.

Don’t you just love houndstooth? And red and purple, too?

I’m combining themes today: Tights and Toes and The Red Hat Society Experiments. Oh, and I threw in some galoshes, too.

Experiment No 589.5

The perils of numbering your experiments ahead of time is that you have to use decimal points if you have an unexpected addition in the series.

I’d forgotten that this tank top already combines that troublesome red and purple. I paired it with a purple cardigan for a casual take on The Red Hat Society Experiments.

Cardigan, Silence + Noise. Tank, Express. Skirt, Dex (via swap). Owl pendant, Coventry. Sandals, Franco Sarto. Kitties, (clockwise from left) Sammy, Zoro, and Smunchy.

The day was too hot for cardigans, but I wore one to spend time in a sports bar for the Last Call Trivia semifinals. Unfortunately, we will not be progressing to the finals. Still, it was a fun time and I was highly amused to learn that the average American uses 57 sheets of toilet paper a day.

Experiment No. 589

The Red Hat Society Experiments continue. The experiments are my attempts to wear red and purple together without looking like a Red Hatter. This is my third try.

Jacket, Charlotte Russe (overdyed). Black tank, Kimchi and Blue. Purple tank, Charlotte Russe. Jeans, Express (overdyed). Pumps, Gianni Bini. Bangles, ring, and sunnies, Girl Props. Scarf, flea market.

Lots of Girl Props goodies here: the sunglasses, owl ring, and two studded bangles

Is today’s experiment a cop-out? I’ll admit, this red and purple combo is much more subtle than what I’ve attempted in the past.

Experiment No. 587 was a bit dodgy.
Experiment No. 588 was terribly matchy matchy.
Experiment No. 590 involves those purple crochet tights (again) so I’ll have to wait for cooler weather to conduct it. (Yes, I have the next experiment planned. After all, I DID major in science.)

Not only does this outfit have scientific value, but it also has potential as a day-to-night outfit. Remove the jacket and scarf and I’m ready for happy hour cocktails.

Alas, I have no exciting Friday night plans. I’ll be at home patting my cats and trying out the “I Hate to Exercise, I Love to Tap” DVD from Netflix.

Of course, I didn’t really wear this to do my video. The outfit isn’t good for dancing and taps are no good for hardwood floors. If you want to see what I actually wore to brush up on my tap skills…click. (I don’t want to inflict the internet at large with photos of myself in a leotard.)

Experiment No 587

Cardigan, Moda International. Tank, Apt 9. Skirt, Edie Bauer. Tights, Apostrophe. Sandals, Nine West. Headband, Forever 21. Belt, swap.

Lately, I’ve been curious about red and purple. Can they be worn together without looking like a reject from the Red Hat Society? This is actually my first attempt, not the five hundred and eighty seventh.
