Trend Monster

Is a furry vest with tweedy shorts one trend too many? Maybe, but playing it safe is so boring.

Vest, Daisy Fuentes (swapped). Sweater, Charlotte Russe. Shorts, The Limited. Lace tights, Apostrophe. Green tights, We Love Colors. Boots, Matisse. Necklace, self-made. Bag, H&M (it’s the camera bag).

P.S. More about the doily necklace.

Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

The oddly warm weather continues (allowing me to pair a heavy tweed jacket with a lightweight dress) but the calendar says the end of the year is approaching. I’ve already purchased holiday gifts and begun to think about New Year’s resolutions.

Jacket, The Limited. Dress, Ann Taylor Loft. Boots, White Mountain. Necklace, Macy’s. Ring, Raffia & Bossa.

How about you? Are you still recovering from Halloween or already planning New Year’s Eve? (I think we’re going to the Know Theatre’s gig.)

Dressing to Move

I do not have a job that requires me to be active. I can wear hobbling skirts, crippling heels, and constricting jackets because I sit at a desk all day. Sometimes, though, they let me out of my cubicle to teach people about energy management. Then, I have to dress a bit more sensibly.

Jacket, So (thrifted). Shirt, The Limited. Skirt, Peyton Place (thrifted and shortened). Boots, White Mountain. Necklace, Zad. Brooch, vintage.

I can’t raise my arms in this jacket, so I had to ditch it to demonstrate dynaband exercises to the class.

That Tweedy Jacket

This jacket is one of my most expensive clothing items and I hardly wear it. Beefy says he’s never seen it before. That’s probably because it’s been languishing in my closet since April 2009.

Jacket, The Limited. Dress, City Triangles (swap). Shoes, Delicious.

This blazer is just a little too uptight for my current tastes. I’ve always worn it in a very traditional manner. Today’s mix has inspired me to pair it with more printed items.

Conservative mixes bore me:

Fourth Blogoversary

On my fourth blogoversary, I did not go to work, but I did don my annual outfit. Can you guess where I am?

Cardigan, Moda International. Blouse, Newport News. Skirt, Talbot’s. Shoes, Linea Paolo.

It’s gorgeous out here!

On Going from Blond to Red

It’s been four months since I returned to red (from platinum blond). Changes like that are hard on your hair! My ends are still a little crispy and refuse to hold the red dye. Ah well. I think of the stiff, pale tips as “textured” and “highlighted.”

On to the outfit:

Cardigan, The Limited. Tank, George. Skirt, Talbot’s. Shoes, Pulse. Earrings, Target. Bag, Franco Sarto.

Stinky

Kittens are cute, but they smell really bad. I managed to transfer some of that stink to my hair this morning and then had to clip it back to keep the smelly strands from my nose.

Jacket, SO (thrifted). Sweater, Body Central. Skirt, Willi Smith (thrifted and altered). Doily necklace, self-made. Boots, Nine West. Owl brooch, vintage. Hair clip, 100 Yen Store.

Cute, but stinky:

That’s Roy in the first picture. In the second picture, Roy is on the left and Walt is on the right.

I do not recommend putting a clothespin on your nose, no matter how stinky your kittens may be. It hurts.

Jewish Calculator

I whiled away many dull hours in church leafing through My Book of Bible Stories. It was beautifully illustrated and I took note of what each character wore. I thought it such a shame that Jezebel* was thrown out the window to wild dogs wearing the loveliest robes and simply dripping in jewelry. In another story, an Israelite priest (Aaron?) was pictured in his ceremonial garments, wearing something that looked to me like a giant calculator on this chest. I dubbed it the “Jewish calculator.”

It turns out that the ornament’s proper name is “breastplate of the high priest,” but I still think of it as the “Jewish calculator.” In fact, that’s what I exclaimed when I spotted the center necklace at the thrift store. (I've got to take out one column to make it the 12 tribes of Israel. I don't think there were 15.)

Cardigan, Forever 21. Dress (worn as a top), American Apparel. Skirt, Talbot’s. Pumps, Colin Stuart. Nude fishnets, Simply Vera. Bracelets, Epcot Morocco. Jewish calculator necklace and single strand of faux pearls, thrifted. Golden paillette necklace, Body Central. Triple strand faux pearls with medallion, Newport News.

Linebacker

Tweedy jacket, The Limited. Tank, Deep Los Anglees. Skirt, Moda International. Pumps, Delicious. Bag, No Boundaries. Necklace, World Market.

(I’m watching Smunchy as he attempts to destroy my artful window treatment. I may be smiling, but I am NOT amused.)

Today, I’m wearing a couple of style blogger favorites. Stephanie owns this jacket (although I’ve not seen her wear it on her blog) and Londyn has both this skirt and these pumps.

Obviously, since Stephanie owns it, this jacket is in good taste, but the strong shoulders can make me feel a bit like a linebacker, especially when it’s buttoned up.

In addition to the very strong shoulder, I tend to avoid the jacket because it seems a bit too staid for my style. This is how I’ve worn it in the past:

I’m sorry the pictures are so awful. I mostly wore this during the first year of my blog, before I had developed any photo or posing skills.

How would you wear it?
